Celtic Player Ratings v Dundee Utd

Celtic were tasked with keeping up the pace with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon when they faced Dundee United at Tannadice. And keep the pace they did. A comfortable 3-1 victory saw the Hoops move within four points of the league leaders.

Let’s get into the player ratings from the match.

Joe Hart - 7/10

In the first half, Joe Hart was rarely tested. In the second though, he was slightly more involved, making a great stop to deny Adrian Sporle. The Englishman also came to collect several crosses and his distribution was top class despite a minor lapse early in the first half.

Josip Juranovic - 7/10

The Croatian played in his natural right back position for the full match and was characteristically tidy in his overall play. Juranovic  got forward well and contributed to another Celtic clean sheet.

Cameron Carter-Vickers - 8/10

Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to the Celtic side on Sunday after missing out on Thursday evening due to personal reasons. The American put in a thorough display at the heart of defence alongside Carl Starfelt with the pair developing an eminent partnership.

Carl Starfelt - 8/10

A man of the match performance from Carl Starfelt against Hearts midweek was followed up by another admirable performance at Tannadice on Sunday. The Swede was calm and comfortable on the ball as well as being well founded in defence.

Greg Taylor - 7/10

A ten week injury lay off for Greg Taylor ended today. The full back came in and put in a thorough performance, combining well with Mikey Johnston on the left flank.

Callum McGregor - 8/10

Callum McGregor controlled the midfield today and made several ball recoveries as well as passes, floating a sublime ball into David Turnbull for Celtic’s second goal. The captain continues to be consistent week in, week out.

David Turnbull - 8/10

It was a terrific goal from David Turnbull which doubled Celtic’s lead on the fortieth minute. The twenty two year old rounded Benjamin Siegrist and tapped into an empty net. Turnbull also created several opportunities for his teammates and looks back on form after stagnating for the last couple of matches.

Tom Rogic - 9/10

It was arguably Tom Rogic’s greatest performance under Ange Postecoglou this afternoon. The Australian scored a goal of the season contender to open the scoring, rounding several Dundee United players and finishing into the bottom corner. Rogic also made numerous driving runs from deep to round off a man of the match display.

James Forrest - 6/10

James Forrest was rarely involved in the time he played and had to be replaced at half time after struggling with what looked to be a hamstring issue. Liel Abada came on for the thirty year old.

Kyogo Furuhashi - 7/10

Celtic’s Japanese forward was rather unfortunate not to get himself on the scoresheet today however his all round performance and link up play was splendid. Kyogo will surely be rested for Celtic’s dead rubber in the Europa League on Thursday.

Mikey Johnston - 6/10

Although I heavily criticised Mikey Johnston on Thursday evening, the twenty two year old was actually satisfactory in his performance today, particularly in the first half. Johnston linked up well with Greg Taylor down the left hand side and fired some dangerous balls across goal.

Substitutes

Celtic’s substitutes were rather efficient today. Liel Abada replaced James Forrest at half time and registered an assist however the Israeli should’ve had himself a goal. He was brilliantly played through by Kyogo Furuhashi late on however Abada poked it wide. His assist set up fellow substitute Liam Scales. The Irishman played just fifteen minutes yet scored his maiden Celtic goal, finishing into the bottom left corner with a lovely, cultured effort from outside the box. The final Celtic change saw Nir Bitton replace Tom Rogic in midfield and the Israeli didn’t contribute anything of note to the match.

The grandeur of Celtic’s victory over Dundee United on Sunday cannot be underestimated. The Hoops had to go to a tough ground, with a somewhat depleted squad and secure a result. Ange Postecoglou’s men did so with more ease than expected.
