Celtic Player Ratings v Aberdeen
Celtic claimed a massive, to say the least, victory against Aberdeen on Sunday. It was Ange Postecoglou’s first away domestic victory as Celtic’s manager and this could be the pick-me-up his Celtic side needed. Let’s get into the player ratings.
Joe Hart - 7/10
Hart made a number of important saves to deny two ex-Celts in Scott Brown and Johnny Hayes. The Englishman continues to be a commanding and leading presence for Celtic.
Adam Montgomery- 7/10
The young Scot got the assist for Celtic’s winning goal. A lot of trust has been put in Montgomery and he repaid the faith with the match winning assist. The only downside to his performance was the fact he could’ve done slightly better to deny Lewis Ferguson’s header.
Carl Starfelt - 6/10
It was another average performance from Carl Starfelt today and I don’t recall any vital contributions from the Swede. Cameron Carter-Vickers remains the superior of Ange Postecoglou’s preferred centre-half pairing.
Cameron Carter-Vickers - 7/10
I feel like I mention this every single week although the number of aerial duels Cameron Carter-Vickers won today was countless. The American looks like he will be a regular fixture in Celtic’s back line this campaign.
Anthony Ralston - 6/10
Anthony Ralston had a greatly quiet match today. The twenty-two year old had a stray cross in the final twenty minutes but apart from that, rarely got forward. It remains to be seen whether or not Josip Juranovic will be fit when Celtic face Motherwell after the International break.
Nir Bitton - 6/10
The surprising addition to the Celtic team today was that of Nir Bitton’s. The Israeli made a cameo appearance against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday evening but played from the start today. Some of his challenges were rash and he picked up a deserved booking which definitely played a part in his withdrawal on seventy-two minutes.
Callum McGregor - 7/10
Celtic’s captain played in a slightly more advanced role today and he certainly makes a difference in the Hoops’ midfield. The twenty-eight year old will now go on International duty with Scotland for two crucial matches.
David Turnbull - 8/10
A sublime cross from David Turnbull saw Celtic open the scoring early on. Apart from that involvement, the former Motherwell midfielder didn’t have many opportunities to effect the game.
Jota - 9/10
The on loan Benfica attacker scored the winner for Celtic today. It was just his second goal for the club but it could be his most crucial for a long time. Jota was unfortunate not to get his name on the score sheet earlier in the match when his long range effort hit the crossbar. Celtic’s option to buy on Jota is one that fans will be eager for the club to take up.
Kyogo Furuhashi - 8/10
The Japanese forward got his maiden goal after returning from injury this afternoon. It was an improvised finish at the back post from Kyogo but it doesn’t matter how it goes in, I suppose. The twenty-six year old was absolutely clinical and took his only real chance of the game. Similarly to many of his Celtic teammates, Kyogo will now jet away on International duty.
Liel Abada - 6/10
The birthday boy was the least lively of Celtic’s frontline and was unable to put his stamp on the game. We have to remember Abada is just twenty years of age and we can’t expect him to churn out consistent performances week by week.
Substitutes
Tom Rogic - 7/10
Rogic was only on the pitch for eighteen minutes however he played a vital pass in behind the Aberdeen defence which eventually led to Celtic’s winner. The Australian started on the bench for the first time since the Glasgow derby at Ibrox at the end of August but proved his worth when he got the chance to do so.
Albian Ajeti - 5/10
The Swiss striker was given a call up to the national team for the upcoming Internationals but came on as a substitute for the second game running today. He was sparsely involved and didn’t create or have any opportunities.
As I mentioned, Celtic’s victory today was crucial one. The performance wasn’t the greatest but the result is all that matters. The Hoops will head back to Glasgow with all three points intact.
