Celtic Player Ratings v Dundee Utd
Another lacklustre Celtic display took place on Sunday afternoon against Dundee United. A one all draw left many a fan disappointed and aggravated for the second weekend in a row. Let’s get into the player ratings.
Joe Hart - 7/10
The Englishman was rarely tested but did make a crucial save which denied Dundee United all three points towards the end.
Anthony Ralston - 6/10
Ralston covered the right hand side well and set up a few chances however his exploits weren’t enough to help propel Celtic to the win.
Carl Starfelt - 6/10
Carl Starfelt was the less involved of the two centre backs. The Swede made a couple of interceptions in the second half and was heavily involved in build up play but had an all round average performance.
Cameron Carter-Vickers - 7/10
The Tottenham loanee won countless aerial duels and similar to Starfelt, was encompassed in build up play. The American is the most dependable of the Celtic defenders, in my opinion.
Josip Juranovic - 5/10
Juranovic was unable to affect the game before he was forced off through injury on the 24th minute. The extent of what he suffered remains unclear.
James McCarthy - 5/10
I think I speak for all Celtic fans when I say James McCarthy had a grave performance. I cannot recall an instance when the Irishman made a forward pass. Celtic’s midfield continues to be a worry with Callum McGregor’s absence.
Tom Rogic - 6/10
Rogic seemed a passenger today. The Australian hesitated, on a number of occasions, to have a pop at goal when it seemed the prime option. His renaissance under Ange Postecoglou has not been what Celtic fans first thought it may be.
David Turnbull - 6/10
Turnbull characteristically had a few shots on goal from range yet, evidently, none found the back of the net. The Scot hit the bar in the first half and parallel to Rogic, lacked creativity in the middle of the park.
Liel Abada - 7/10
The Israeli scored for the second game running with a lovely header. Abada provided width to the Celtic attack and despite his goal, rarely got an opportunity to influence the game.
Jota - 8/10
It may be controversial giving Jota a higher rating than the goalscorer Abada but I felt the Portuguese was the most lively player on the park for Celtic today. He rattled the woodwork towards the end and his sublime cross met the head of Liel Abada for Celtic’s only goal of the game.
Albian Ajeti - 5/10
Ajeti offered next to nothing up top. The Swiss did have the ball in the back of the net but there was adjudged to be a foul in the build up by referee Kevin Clancy. He also missed a guilt edged opportunity to put Celtic back in front in the first half but blazed over the bar. The sooner either Giorgos Giakoumakis or Kyogo Furuhashi are back for Celtic, the better.
Substitutes
Adam Montgomery - 6/10
The youngster replaced Josip Juranovic in the first half. Montgomery got up and down the left hand side well however he did misplace a couple of passes. All in all though, it was another cogent enough performance from the 19 year old.
Ismaila Soro - 6/10
Soro was introduced at half time and took the place of James McCarthy in Celtic’s midfield. The Ivorian was positive with his passing but did give away a few fouls; we have come to expect this from Soro however. The 23 year old was caught out in midfield a couple of times but as I mentioned, his forward thinking passing was a step up from James McCarthy.
Celtic now sit 6th in the Scottish Premiership table; six points behind league leaders Rangers. The Hoops have dropped points for the second time in a row in the league and a trip to Pittodrie next weekend looks an arduous challenge.
